A One-of-a-Kind Assistive Care Facility
‘No place like home’ takes on a special meaning at St. Columban’s on the Lake
Located on the shores of Lake Erie, between Silver Creek and Dunkirk in New York, stands a stately Tudor-Gothic structure—the physical heart of St. Columban’s on the Lake Retirement Home. Surrounding this impressive building are beautifully maintained grounds with lovely shade trees, a waterfall garden, flowers dotting a meticulously trimmed lawn and a gentle path to the Lake that welcomes exercise and exploration.
All in all, the property covers approximately 53 acres, and the image is such that it’s easy to understand why one resident described being at St. Columban’s as “like living in a country manor home.”
Since the Columban Sisters took over the property and opened the retirement home in 1970, they have carefully preserved the exterior look of the building and landscape, which dates back to 1928. Inside, artwork and furnishings that harken to the global missionary work of the Columban Sister accent the décor. But over the past decades, the Sisters have also implemented an ongoing program of remodeling, upgrading, and expanding facilities to best accommodate St. Columban’s residents. Today, in addition to the 50 comfortable, private rooms, residents enjoy access to a chapel, a spacious community room for celebrations and special events … and more. A restaurant-quality kitchen in which three delicious homemade meals are prepared daily serves the warm and inviting dining room—a natural center for socializing.
It is within the secure embrace of St. Columban’s walls that residents of every faith and race make their homes. Each room provides residents with space for living and sleeping as well as a private bathroom. Some of these rooms are also designed to accommodate couples. All rooms offer the modern amenities—including housekeeping—an outstanding community for residents needing assistance with daily living activities.
Though the residents’ rooms are fully furnished, those making a new home at St. Columban’s are invited to bring their favorite pieces of furniture as well as meaningful keepsakes or decorative items. Our staff takes great care in helping new residents settle in, and we’re always happy to provide any assistance to see that everyone living here fully enjoys all that St. Columban’s has to offer.
