Our Resident Services

Offering Peace of Mind to Residents and Their Families

We enter this world in want of love and care. Upon reaching our winter years, we will likely find ourselves again appreciating kind hearts and hands that assist us in sometimes small, but always meaningful ways. It is this universal need that we at St. Columban’s fulfill through our assistive-care services.

Though we work diligently and tirelessly to serve the needs our residents, it isn’t difficult to remain dedicated in our tasks, because in their faces we readily see our own parents, grandparents, friends, relatives … and ourselves.

Administered by St. Columban’s Personal Care Department—through the conscientious efforts of well trained LPNs and aides—assistance during difficult moments is readily available. Each room is equipped with “call” pull-cords in the bathroom and by the bed, enabling a resident to summon help at any time of day or night and any day of the year. Our personal care staff has beepers and will respond quickly to the call, and we take every measure necessary to see that the resident is put at ease. Additionally, our friendly staff will periodically stop by our residents’ rooms just to make sure all is well.
Some St. Columban’s residents require little assistance in performing the daily tasks associated with personal care. For others, bathing, getting dressed or simply fixing their hair may be more than they can handle on any particular day. Our personal care staff will provide any help necessary to see that the hygienic and grooming needs of our residents are satisfied, enabling them to fully and confidently participate in daily life at St. Columban’s. And at all times, this assistance will be rendered in a loving and thoughtful manner that upholds the dignity of the resident.
Meals at St. Columban’s aren’t just a time to eat delicious food; they are also a time to socialize! Food is served three times a day (e.g. breakfast, dinner, and supper) on a regular schedule. Dining room service generally lasts an hour, so everyone has a chance to catch up with one another while enjoying the daily menu. Morning begins with an assortment of breakfast favorites, followed by the main meal at midday, and lighter fare in the evening for supper. Our carefully prepared homemade meals rotate a variety of flavorful dishes—with entrees often selected to match the season. Though the daily entrees are pre-determined each day, we’re happy to offer an alternative meal upon request. We are also happy to accommodate any special dietary needs of our residents. Prescription medication is a fact-of-life for older individuals, but keeping track of when to take which pill (and making sure they don’t run out) may be an area of chronic concern. St. Columban’s on the Lake is pleased to provide our residents with medication management service. We thoroughly acquaint ourselves with each resident’s medicinal regimen, and make certain that they are following doctor’s orders. In addition, we are happy to provide assistance ordering medications and in seeing that they’re delivered as required.
Who wouldn’t like a little help with the housekeeping? For our residents, everything is taken care of. Washing clothes is as simple as putting them in a laundry bag where they will be picked up on a weekly basis to be washed, folded and returned on the same day. We also have staff drop by every day to make up beds, take out trash and recyclables and generally tidy up the rooms. Then once a week (at a regularly scheduled time), our housekeeping service will give the room a nice deep cleaning, changing linens, dusting and scrubbing the bathroom.
Our facility is welcoming to people of any (or no) religious affiliation, but as a retirement home run by the Columban Sisters, it’s no surprise that we believe in ministering to the soul as well as the mind and body. To that end, Mass is held daily in our lovely chapel—led by our in-house chaplain. We also offer Protestant services with guest clergy once or twice a month. Additionally, we have a small, private chapel available for individual prayer and meditation.

St. Columban’s on the Lake is a not-for-profit retirement home where you will find exceptional care, beautiful accommodations, and rates that are surprisingly affordable.
